What is psychrometry in water damage drying?

Psychrometry is the scientific measurement of moisture content and humidity in air, used by restoration technicians to guide equipment placement and drying rates during water mitigation work.

Drying technicians use psychrometry to understand the behavior of moisture in air. The field combines mathematics and physics to calculate relationships between dry-bulb temperature (actual air temperature), wet-bulb temperature (cooler reading from a wet cloth), and dew point (the temperature at which air becomes saturated and condensation forms).
